Mantis Energy is an exciting new sustainable start-up company with a variety of exciting projects. You could make a key difference in the government’s target to become carbon neutral be 2050 and Manchester by 2038.

The Energy Consultant will complete a variety of work activities within the company such as energy compliance, design activities and project management tasks. Some duties listed below may change as per the needs of the company.

You will be responsible for managing clients, providing technical advice, assessing building fabric and M&E systems feasibility strategies for a range of building types.

Main Duties:

  • Managing working relationships with architects and individual clients
  • Undertaking heat loss and energy use studies based on architects’ drawings
  • Completing fabric, mechanical, electrical and renewable energy feasibility studies
  • Communicating with external specialist energy assessors (SBEM, PHPP, Air Pressure, Thermal Imaging, Borehole Inspection)
  • Providing reports and communicating findings and options with architects and clients

Detailed Duties:

  • Data gathering, drawing measurements and basic energy calculations
  • Reviewing CAD drawings and 3D models
  • Carrying out new build heat loss, energy use & SAP calculations
  • Completing energy statements for new building projects
  • Organising and evaluating air pressure tests
  • Completing Energy Retrofit Reports for Existing Buildings
  • Use of energy efficiency and renewable energy software
  • Organise various specialist energy surveys
  • Planning & supervising existing building retrofit installations
  • Planning & supervising new building Installations
  • Attending site surveys to gather building data
  • Attending site surveys to document work progress and write reports
  • Assessing buildings for low carbon technologies (Solar PV, Heat Pumps, Batteries, EV Charging Stations, etc.)
  • Assisting with the creation, improvement and evaluation of company internal processes

Qualifications & Experience


  • Passionate about sustainability and reducing emissions
  • Great interpersonal and communication skills
  • Open to learning new processes, software and technical knowledge
  • Ability to adapt to various client needs and styles
  • Able to manage time well and work independently


  • Experience managing client relationships and managing projects
  • Can review CAD drawings and 3D models
  • Experience with energy use and carbon emissions in buildings
  • Experience with excel formulas and functions
  • Full clean driving license


  • Prior experience with energy calculations and energy efficiency in buildings
  • Prior experience beneficial in renewable power generation and heating systems
  • Experience with advanced excel functions such as macros
  • Can edit CAD drawings and 3D models
  • Sustainability or Engineering related degree
