EnerPHit PassivHaus Design Services
In central London, eight mews houses are being transformed to meet EnerPHit, the PassivHaus refurbishment standard. Mantis are working closely with the design team to ensure each home achieves the highest performance, combining energy efficiency, renewable integration, and exceptional indoor comfort.
Designing to the EnerPHit Standard
EnerPHit is one of the most rigorous retrofit standards in the world. To meet it, Mantis designed building fabric upgrades, thermal bridging details, airtightness strategies, and mechanical systems that align with PassivHaus principles.
Mantis designed a renewable heating system paired with heating and cooling fan coil units for year-round comfort. A mechanical ventilation with heat recovery (MVHR) system ensures fresh air circulation, recovering heat from internal spaces to minimise energy use.
Detailed design heating, hot water and ventilation layouts were provided using the latest 3D MEP design software REVIT to help architects, builders and clients visualise and build.
Comfort and Efficiency for Residents
Each home will feature high-performance triple glazing, MVHR (ventilation with heat recovery), and renewable-ready heating and power systems. The result is superior thermal comfort, consistent indoor air quality, and significantly reduced energy use.
Collaboration with the Project Team
Working alongside George James Associates, Mantis delivered Mechanical & Electrical designs across all RIBA stages. This integrated approach ensured the homes could achieve EnerPHit certification while maintaining architectural quality.
Mantis works closely with many architects on residential newbuild projects from initial concept and feasibility stages all the way through to construction. Mantis provide a support at all RIBA Stages of work. Our unique selling point is our ability to provide comprehensive 3D MEP design while supporting low energy building projects through energy modelling and thermal bridge detailing.
Setting a Retrofit Benchmark
The Passmore scheme showcases how older properties can be transformed to meet world-class sustainability standards. It sets a benchmark for future retrofits in London, combining advanced engineering with low-energy living.
Mantis completed a suite of services for this PassivHaus EnerPHit Design. The result is a seamless integration of low carbon technologies into the architectural vision, creating a truly future-proof home.
Like with any home MEP building services design as well as energy consulting is essential. Building regulations Part L, Part O, Part F have been carefully considered. This ensures that the building is designed and operates efficiently while meeting the latest building regulations.
